Donut Wednesday:

Tristan Fowler has taken over the duty of providing donuts for the first Wednesday of each month

Orientation for incoming graduate students will be on August 15th, starting at 10:15 a.m.  Starting at 10:30, officers will begin taking groups on tours of the campus.  The route of the tour will be to follow along the “hospital loop” which will allow them to see the general location of the Biomedical buildings, Cancer Institute, UAMS Hospital, and cafeteria, and will end by going back to the COPH building through the underground tunnel where they will get their badges made at Creative Services.  Along the way officers will point out the various places to eat (on and off campus) and the direction of the Graduate School office, Administrative office, and bookstore.

Supplemental materials to be given:  Map of campus, map of the surrounding area, weekly & monthly events in the community, hours of operation for creative services, health insurance information, GSA events

*Will not include user name and password- this will be given out at lunch

The GSA will provide pizza for the lunch from the Domino’s located on Rodney Parham.

Lunch starts at 12:00 and from 12:00-12:30 they will be allowed to interact with each other and the officers (i.e. the officers should be going around and trying to involve everyone).  At 12:30 Dr. McGhee will get up to talk and will be followed by an introduction to health insurance presented by Faith McDaniel, and the various social events throughout the year presented by Adam Brown.  The other two main officers, Katie McDaniel and Neil Detweiler, will give a brief introduction.

Foreign Tutorial

It was mentioned that there is a lower level of participation from our foreign students and Serra Ucer suggested that we hold a tutorial on the social norms/expectancies so that they may feel more comfortable about attending.  Faith agreed to co-host this event, which will be given a specific location and date closer to the beginning of school.

Next Meeting:

The next meeting will be held on August 24th at the same location and time.
